Home EV charger installation
A wall charger and the circuit to run it. Overnight on a home charger is the cheapest way to fill a car.

Charge the car overnight at home, or straight off your own roof. The charger is the easy part – making sure your power supply and switchboard can carry it is the part worth getting right.

About EV charging at home
A home EV charger is a wall unit wired on its own circuit from the switchboard. Installing one is electrical work, so it needs a licensed electrician – ideally one who checks your supply and your board as well.
Some homes need more before a fast charger can run alongside a heat pump and an induction cooktop. That might mean a switchboard upgrade or three phase power. A good installer tells you before the job starts, not after.
Slow charging from a standard powerpoint
Not enough power for the charger and the house
Charging from the grid while the panels export
Ask whether your switchboard and supply can handle a charger before you choose one. It decides what you can install.
Not sure what you need?
Your switchboard and your roof decide most of it.

A charger that follows what the roof is making, so the car fills on your own power rather than the grid.

Not sure where to start?
Don’t waste money on upgrades you don’t need. A professional home energy assessment shows where your house loses heat and power, so your budget goes where it makes the biggest difference.
