Upgrade My Home

Lighting and energy controls

Lighting is the upgrade you see every night. Swap old halogen and fluorescent lights for LEDs, let sensors and timers switch off what nobody’s using, and see where the rest of your power goes.

A common sign

“Half the downlights are blown and the rest run hot.”
If that sounds familiar, they’re probably halogen. LED downlights give the same light for much less power, and an electrician can often do the whole house in one visit.

About Lighting and energy controls

Use less power for the same light.

An LED upgrade replaces halogen downlights, fluorescent tubes and old globes with LED lighting. Many halogen downlights need a new fitting, not just a new globe, and that’s work for a licensed electrician.

Controls decide when the lights are on. Sensors, timers, smart switches and dimmers turn off what nobody’s using. An energy monitor at the switchboard shows what the whole house uses, and what your solar makes, so you can see what to upgrade next.

Ask this

Ask whether your downlights need new fittings or just new globes, and whether the new ones will work with your dimmers.
