An LED upgrade replaces halogen downlights, fluorescent tubes and old globes with LED lights. They give the same light for much less power, run cooler and last much longer.
A common sign
“We’re forever replacing blown downlights.”
About lED lighting upgrades
Halogen downlights turn much of their power into heat. LEDs turn more of it into light, so they use less power for the same brightness and stay cooler in the ceiling.
Many halogen downlights need a new LED fitting rather than just a new globe, because of the transformer behind them. That’s electrical work, so it needs a licensed electrician. Ask about the colour of the light too: warm white suits living areas, and many people choose a cooler white for kitchens and laundries.
Blown or hot halogen downlights
Flickering fluorescent tubes
Dim, dated light fittings
Ask whether your downlights need new fittings or just new globes, and whether the new lights will work with your dimmers.

More in lighting and controls
Swap old halogen and fluorescent lights for LEDs, put the lights on sensors and timers, and see where your power actually goes. Electricians who do this work every day.

Sensors, timers, smart switches and dimmers, so lights go off in empty rooms and only come on when they’re needed.

A monitor fitted at the switchboard that shows what the house is using, and what the solar is making, as it happens. You can finally see which appliances use the most.
