Pool heating

Swim for more of the year without paying to run a gas heater. A pool heat pump or solar pool heating warms the water using the air or the sun instead.

A common sign

“We only use the pool for a few weeks a year because it’s too cold.”
Heating the water can stretch the swimming season by months. The trick is doing it without a big gas bill.

About pool heating

Warmer water, for more of the year.

A pool heat pump pulls heat from the outside air and moves it into the pool water, a bit like a reverse cycle air conditioner. Solar pool heating pumps the water through collectors on your roof, where the sun warms it.

Both can replace a gas pool heater. A heat pump works in most weather, while solar is cheapest to run but depends on sunshine and roof space. Either way, a good pool cover keeps the heat in overnight and makes a big difference.

Worth knowing

Ask about a pool cover at the same time. Most of a pool’s heat is lost from the surface, so a cover helps any heater work less.

Switchboard upgrades

An older board often cannot take an induction cooktop, a heat pump and a charger at once. This is the job that unblocks the rest.
