Old ceiling insulation settles, thins and gets disturbed over the years. Topping it up adds a new layer over what’s there, for much less than a full install.
A common sign
“We have insulation, but it’s ancient. Is it still doing anything?”
About ceiling insulation top up
Insulation works by trapping air, so when it gets flattened or pushed aside it does a lot less. Gaps left by electricians, plumbers or pests can make a real difference to how warm a room feels.
A top up adds a new layer over the existing insulation, filling the gaps and adding thickness. An installer will check that the old material is dry and safe to leave in place first.
Old, thin or patchy insulation
Rooms that are colder than the rest of the house
Improving a home without starting from scratch
If the existing insulation is damp, mouldy or damaged by pests, it may need removing first. Nothing new performs well on top of it.
