If your home sits on stumps and the floors are freezing in winter, underfloor insulation can help. It’s fitted from underneath, so your carpet and floorboards stay where they are.
A common sign
“Our floorboards are so cold we wear socks all winter.”
About underfloor insulation
Homes built on stumps or piers have open space under the floor, which lets cold air sit right under your feet. Underfloor insulation is fitted between the floor joists from below, slowing heat escaping through the floor.
The installer needs enough room to get under the house. They should also check for damp or poor ventilation under the floor, because those need sorting before insulation goes in.

Rooms that never feel warm despite heating
Ask them to check the space under the floor for damp and ventilation first. Insulation in a damp subfloor can make a moisture problem worse.

Not sure where to start?
Don’t waste money on upgrades you don’t need. A professional home energy assessment shows where your house loses heat and power, so your budget goes where it makes the biggest difference.

More in insulation and draughts
The cheapest work in the house, and the thing to do before you spend money on heating. Start here if the budget is tight.

The cheapest change you can make to how a house holds temperature, and the one most homes are still short on.

Older batts settle and thin out. Adding a layer over what is there costs a fraction of a full install.

Blown into the cavity of an existing wall without taking the room apart. Harder than a ceiling and worth more in a brick veneer.

Doors, windows, wall vents and the gaps around them. The cheapest work in the building and the fastest to feel.

Old, damp, rodent damaged or non compliant material out first. Nothing new performs on top of it.
