Walls without insulation let heat escape in winter and soak it up in summer. In many existing homes, insulation can be blown into the wall cavity without pulling the walls apart.

“The outside walls feel cold to touch in winter.”
About wall insulation
In an existing home, wall insulation is usually blown or injected into the gap inside the wall through small holes, which are then patched. It’s harder than insulating a ceiling, but it can make a real difference, especially in brick veneer homes.
Not every wall is suitable. An installer will check how your walls are built, whether there’s room in the cavity, and whether there are any moisture problems that need fixing first.

Ask how they’ll check the wall cavity before they start, and how the access holes will be patched and finished.

Don’t waste money on upgrades you don’t need. A professional home energy assessment shows where your house loses heat and power, so your budget goes where it makes the biggest difference.

More in insulation and draughts
The cheapest work in the house, and the thing to do before you spend money on heating. Start here if the budget is tight.

The cheapest change you can make to how a house holds temperature, and the one most homes are still short on.

Older batts settle and thin out. Adding a layer over what is there costs a fraction of a full install.

For a house on stumps with a cold floor in July. Fitted from below, so the floor coverings stay where they are.

Doors, windows, wall vents and the gaps around them. The cheapest work in the building and the fastest to feel.

Old, damp, rodent damaged or non compliant material out first. Nothing new performs on top of it.
